About

Volunteers for Development International was founded in 2001 by a group of volunteers who set out to bring the resources of the nation and the international community to the most deprived villages of Ghana. Although the cities of Ghana have resources, in the rural areas there is a severe lack of basic amenities such as electricity, water, social service centers, teachers, books and housing for teachers. Our goal is to use the energy and creativity of volunteers to improve life in the villages.

PARTNERSHIP ORGANISATIONS

In order to ensure smooth and effective organizational and managerial operations, the Association has been affiliated to the appropriate sector and government ministries and other network of NGO(s) both home and abroad. For our educational programmes, we are affiliated with the ministry of education, youth and sport through the Ghana education service and the national youth council. We also collaborate with the ministry of health through the Ghana AIDS Commission and the Ghana health services. For our AIDS project, we have trained more than 100 peer educators since 2002 and we have been able to reach out to over 20,000 people with HIV/AIDS and family planning issues.

We are also linked up with Resources Development Network in the USA and through the technical expertise of competent staff, we are also making a giant stride in terms of training and development.

Currently, we are seeking for more partners throughout the world. The partnership should be geared towards capacity building training, exchange of volunteers for cultural activities, sponsorship for work camps and donations to needy institutions in Ghana and Africa as a whole.

The idea of the volunteers cultural exchange programme is to strengthen national, international and interracial understanding and contribute to the totality of the world peace and development. Therefore we are ready to liaise, with institutions, departments NGO(s) individuals and other co-operate bodies both at home and abroad that share the same objectives and ideas and have strong commitment to the development of humanity.
